I decided to spice up my monochrome style of portrait art by colouring accessories and clothes of the reference images. Turned out that the clients loved it a lot. I used acrylic paint but based on the cost of acquiring the paint, I had to increase my fee. The unpainted image is a free portrait of my ex-manager at Ventura, Ibadan. I had placed my artworks there for a while before I took back custody due to certain issues with management. But no hard feelings, forging ahead and we are still best of friends.

Been awhile since I practiced drawing a celebrity, I believe every artist has his or her own style and I’m definitely not the hyper realistic type. My niche has always been acrylic painting but doesn’t mean I don’t like to try all sorts of art.( Digital, etc.). Here’s to a multi talented artiste, Justin Bieber. As usual I shade with pencil grades B, 2B, 4B, 6B, 8B. In that sequence, then blend with a tortillon wrapped with tissue paper.

Many call me talented, gifted and so on (very flattering till I see another artist’s work), which I do appreciate a lot. In my spare time, I do try to teach other aspiring artists but they get discouraged each time they hear of the time frame it takes to complete a standard artwork, talk less a masterpiece. (Not even days, months).

If not for some current setbacks (Team Nigeria with her ridiculously expensive data plan and epileptic power supply, I love my country though). I would have created my very own YouTube channel, where I’ll be posting my step by step tutorial videos. But it’ll happen someday, when it comes to the business of art, one can’t actually predict the season of the surge of customers, I got this job some days ago to make a family portrait,(the stress was well worth the pay, heehaw). Consisted of a straight (ahem) couple plus two beautiful daughters, took me a week to accomplish. The process was regular still. A3 format cartridge paper but I used white pelican paper for the couples, used a grid system with my trusty mechanical 2b lead pencil, and then combined 8b, 4b, 8h, hb, 2b and 4b pencils for the whole shading. Used a tissue paper for blending (never ever use your fingers). I plan on kick starting my painting career soon, the materials are off the roof expensive unless one wants to purchase mediocre student quality materials (yuck) and yes, I’m a huge fan of acrylics for two major reasons;
→Fast drying ability
→None toxic smell
When I get my money right, I’ll buy all the necessary materials and self-teach even if it takes a decade, I’ll eventually get there, life is a competition between just two people, you and yourself, stop getting depressed by what your friends are currently achieving or have achieved, as long as you got your hustle on and not idling with prayers, you’ll hit the jackpot someday. (Never said you shouldn’t pray though).

Apologies.., I so wish I could be posting and updating on a daily basis but nope…, I have other things doing (Like whooping my siblings on FIFA15, psst! I can’t afford the latest version yet).
My internet source provider which is mainly my phone has been quite faulty, still battling with it, sigh, oh well, it’s all good. Easter is almost here, the anticipation is in the air right? I’m not talking about the food, DC’s “Dawn of Justice” movie is coming out! Superman VS Batman (drools…).

Been a long time coming, I don’t care what age you are, this is a must see movie for all DC fans and Marvel fans alike. Advices though.., especially if you are in my country, DO NOT go to the cinemas during the Easter break, why? Apart from sold out ticket problems, I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t like a rowdy movie session, with cries of babies, kids and so much family groups. (Oh and couples making out at the back.., Ssh yes they do!), screams and the likes. Best to watch the movie later on, probably five days later after its release. With you and your babe or your guys and few other people, I so much treasure tranquility.

Now to the basis of the post, I’ve always been inspired by talented young people, so many artistes that fit into that thought, Justin Bieber and the likes, but I wanted an indigenous person, so recently on the radio, I listened to a beautiful song, I loved it so much that I had to download it halfway through the song without even knowing the artiste that owned it. I remembered the chorus quite well and “Mr. Romantic” popped up in my Google search, made by Korede Bello featuring Tiwa Savage. It was at that moment that I knew he was going to be my next art victim (Joker’s sinister laugh).

I started with a grid system as usual with a mechanical pencil (B lead), traced the outline with the same pencil, started drawing the left eye then the right eye, nose and finally the mouth. Lightly shaded the whole face with 2H pencil,

This artwork wasn’t compulsory but necessary, many self trained artists hope and pray they improve, but improvement isn’t something that comes naturally, it takes a lot of hard work and ah yes! Practice!!! (Heaven helps those who help themselves).

No matter how busy you may be, always make time for your budding talent, I started with a grid system as usual with a mechanical 2B grade pencil, then used the same pencil for the whole outline, shaded darkest areas with 8B pencil, lightest areas with 2H pencil and the mid-tones with 5B pencil. Blended with tortillions and tissue paper. Didn’t use any kneaded eraser, creating the rough stretches on the jersey was seriously stressful, note that there is no right or wrongway to draw; it’s all about the final result.
